Don Wilder Mahua
A Shipibo curandero of the Mahua lineage, carrying forward the Noya Rao medicine of his grandfathers.
The Mahua Lineage
Don Wilder began studying the plants as a young boy with his grandfathers, Don Benjamin Mahua, Don Pascual Mahua, and Don Manuel Mahua, well-known Noya Rao curanderos of their generation. Through long dietas under their guidance he learned the plants, the icaros, and the discipline of the path.
Don Wilder began the path of dieta at age 13 and has now walked it for more than two decades.
Wilder as a Teacher
Wilder is a wildly talented curandero with an enormous heart, and an even bigger personality. His joy, his love, and his laughter are infectious. He loves spending time with his students, hearing their stories and telling a few of his own.
Wilder's presence around camp is palpable, and he really takes an interest in his students. He wants to hear all about the dreams, visions, and difficulties they may encounter during their dietas.
Above all, Wilder loves to teach. He wants to teach and share about his language and the icaros, the customs of his people and abuelos, and the path of the curandero. Wilder loves to listen to his students sing icaros and will work individually with them to improve. He wants his students to grow and flourish in every way.

Wilder in Ceremony
Wilder's singing is truly special. The vibration and light of Noya Rao shine through his melodies. Often his abuelos will visit in ceremony and sing through him, taking control of his body. Sometimes he will get up and dance as they sing. Sometimes he will laugh, and other times he will cry, at the beauty of what they show him or at the deep traumas and sadness he sees in his students. It is a blessing to sit and receive his medicine.
